If I had to sum up the last few days in one word, I would choose whirlwind... If I had to sum it up in two, I would choose surreal whirlwind.
A few months ago I was encouraged by two of my favorite faculty members at NDMU to submit a proposal to the 37th Annual International Association for Human Caring Conference to spread awareness regarding the importance of enhancing cultural competency among nurse practitioners.
While drafting my abstract, I learned that some nurses fail to deliver comprehensive care to patients due to the preconceived biases. With preconceived biases towards minority groups are dismantled serving as one of FACTUALITY's learning objectives, we all felt that it would be a perfect addition to the conference.
On day two of the conference I had the honor and privilege of presenting FACTUALITY and the response and feedback was so overwhelmingly positive.
It was so exciting to have the support of my family and friends at an
I also had the honor and privilege of facilitating FACTUALITY for Skill Set at the incredibly serene Rowe Center in the Berkshires. Check out some of my favorite pictures from my time there.
FACTUALITY requires a small intimate setting which fosters vulnerability & heightened awareness, resulting in the intentionality of grievance reconciliation.
This particular turn highlighted the gender pay gap which for women is like
"physically taking money out of your pocket and handing it to your" male colleague... exclusively because of maleness. The more intersections of marginalized identities, the further one's pay is compromised.
Sidetone: There is a person in the pictures above who held my hand and told me that I was an inspiration. I am days removed from hearing this but it still gives me goosebumps.
"FACTUALITY engages participants..."
The Rowe Center is so perfectly quaint and tranquil.
Claudia and Eli, thank you for providing me with the opportunity to provide others with this type of educational experience. I am looking forward to our future collaborations.
Rei & Jacob, thank you for your contributions to this opportunity.
